Bunn is a brand that is commonly used in restaurants to brew their coffee.  Now you can bring the brand restaurant’s trust into your home for your own personal use.  The Bunn MCU is a single-serve coffee machine that fits smaller households that don’t need to brew a whole coffee pot worth of coffee.

Like we stated already Bunn is used and designed for industrial and commercial settings.  There are no colors to choose from just an easy-to-clean metal device with black plastic trims.  The footprint is small making it a good choice for smaller kitchens or places like dorm rooms and trailers.  With its simple and practical appearance, this device probably isn’t for those who choose aesthetics first and foremost.  But it does offer a multitude of functions so you can get the most out of your device.

The Bunn MCU single-serve brewer is very versatile.  The MCU My Cafe can brew coffee from nearly any option currently on the market.  You can use K-cups, a brewing pod, or even your own ground coffee.

This single-cup coffee maker comes with four interchangeable brewing heads, called drawers. There’s a drawer for coffee pods,  K-Cups,  ground coffee, and one that lets you simply use the machine to produce a quick cup of hot water.  The function is where Bunn usually shines, and the My Café is no exception.

Bunn MCU Review Final Impressions

Design

The parts on this coffee maker stainless steel and black plastic. The color scheme is simplistic and can easily match almost any décor.  It has a smaller footprint so even small kitchens or rooms can accommodate this coffee machine.

When it comes to the aesthetics of this device your personal taste can determine whether you’ll like this single cup coffee brewer. It’s not fancy but is kind of simplistic.  If you’re looking for the latest flashy-looking appliance, this isn’t it and you should probably look at another device.

Designed by a company that primarily makes industrial and commercial products this is a very sturdy unit and built to last.

Ease of use

The MCU My Cafe is very easy to use.  There are only two buttons to use.  One of the buttons is the brew button which starts the brewing process.  The other button is the pulse button which prompts the device to make a stronger brew.

Since the water reservoir cannot be removed this is what we do for easy measurement.  We fill the mug we drink our coffee with and fill it with water and then we pour this into the water reservoir.  Makes for a perfect measurement every time.

The flashing lights can be confusing when using this machine for the first few times.  Here is a quick guide on what the different lights mean:

• Green light signals you need to add water to the reservoir.
• A red light means the machine still needs to heat up the water.
• A mix of green and red lights could mean the drawer is not fully inserted into place and needs to be locked into place.

Taste of Coffee

By the tank being made of metal, this machine can be kept at a high temperature of around 200°F.  The higher the temperature the more flavor that can be extracted from the grounds.

With the pulse brew option, you can brew a stronger cup of coffee.  The water will be a few degrees colder because it stays in contact with the coffee grounds longer.  End result of the pulse brew is a cup of coffee hotter and stronger than most single-cup coffee brewers on the market.

Durability

The Bunn MCU in general is a sturdy machine.  Mainly made out of stainless steel the metal parts were made to last.  However, not all the parts are made of metal, and the parts made with plastic or have plastic in them can get damaged if not careful.  Also, we have seen some issues with seals around this device.  The seals can wear out over time and when they do this machine can start leaking and cause other problems as well

Cleaning and Maintenance

Basic cleaning is easy and the following is what Bunn suggests. Rinse the Drawers after each use. Drawers, Drip Tray, and Drip Tray Cover are top-rack dishwasher safe. Occasionally wipe the outside of the brewer, including the Drip Tray and Drip Tray Cover, with a mild, no-citrus-added dish soap and a damp cloth.

Deep cleaning your brewer at least every 3 months is recommended by Bunn. Mineral deposits may accumulate due to impurities in the water used to brew your coffee. If deposits are not removed, they can impair the operation of the brewer and reduce the product’s life. The frequency of cleaning depends on the mineral content of your water (the higher the mineral content, the more often you should deep clean).
